Jefferson nickels are certain years, MM, etc. known for weak strikes, poor strikes, etc?

Yes and certain years full steps are almost non existing . That makes them very high dollar to the full step collectors .

Most 1990's Jeffs are pretty poor strike.

About ten years ago I sold a 5.25 step 1969-D with a mark in the steps for what I thought was ridiculous money, and wish I never had. Rare as hen's teeth, those coins are . . . I could spend a lifetime looking for its equal, and die trying.

You know there's a book on this subject the Jefferson nickel analyst, by Bernard A. Nagengast.

I believe 1960-D is one known for weak steps. PCGS coin facts says that fewer than 2 dozen are known in any grade, and suggests that many dates in the 60's are similarly rare in FS.

Take a look at the census numbers for FS coins. That will give you an idea of relative rarity.

I would also suggest picking up a book on Jeffersons. Specialists in the series have studied the strike characteristics of all dates, and a good book will include this information.
