Rick, although the 20c. is the scarcest & strangest denomination in the U.S. coinage series, the 1875S is the one that usually turns up.

I've come across at least 2 of them over here in New Zealand - of which one was a holed one, which I will be selling on eBay through my boss.

I still need a 20 cent piece for my type collection. They may not be the most expensive coin to buy, but they are elusive in decent condition. For a coin that was supposedly not popular, they certainly did circulate.

Is anyone finding these 20 cent pieces in good condition for a fair price??

I agree, they did circulate well. Every auction I go to has at least one or two and always no better than good. I went to an auction 3 months ago and seen 7 of them, all were 75-S and from AG to good. Although all these auctions I attend are of the estate/farm type.

Stll a nice type coin but I have never liked the skinny eagle with the extra large talons on the reverse.

Any good type set needs one of these and I think you got a good deal!

$200 give or take about $25 is what the relatively common one (1875S) usually goes for in about EF40 condition or so (IMO you don't really want much lower than that because it makes it hard to see the details for what it is). Higher than EF40 of course costs more, and the Carson City ones are not cheap, since most of them were melted down! Even the Philadelphia ones are pretty rare.

Couldn't tell you about Canadian ones... know they don't mint one currently, but they may have at some point, perhaps someone knowledgeable about Canadian coins could answer that?

Twiggs, the Canadian 20c. coin was issued in 1858.It is a very scarce coin, which, unfortunately, eludes me.
