I unfortunately do not have a coin to show off today , but I do have a question to ask." Are Siliquae from Emperor Valentinian I rare?" To give an example.-While being bedridden for the past three days I have had a lot of time to search coins. In those three days I have only found two Siliqua from Valentinian I. The cheapest one was around $200 and was a mildly clipped example. The other one was going for over $500! That's a lot of money, even for a Siliqua! Are they rare or is it just me Best
It sounds like they are a bit hard to find. I don't know the answer your question about rarity though. You may be interested in browsing acsearch's records of Valentinian I siliqua sales. ACsearch does not track CNG's coins, so here is the search run for CNG's archives. Note the categories near the top (Coin Shop, e-Auctions, Printed Auctions). You'll need to click each category to see all the results. Note that there may be other Valentinians in the search results. As for being bedridden for three days.... ! I hope you are up and at 'em soon!
Well, I engaged in some less-than-thorough research into the matter: I thumbed through RIC IX. It would seem that most silver issues of Valentinian I and Valens are rare, according to the samples taken by Pearce. Although RIC can't be used to accurately predict market rarity, in this case the market does mirror the ratings. I saw mostly R's.
Finally got to this. Thanks guys, I had the feeling Siliqua of his were rare. I prefer a more unorthodox treatment.... Scotch Single Malt
