Okay, here is an update of my "2015 Coins to-date" ... Although it is only mid-March, I've already blown this month's budget (*rats*) ... Therefore, because I'm unable to search and snag some new coins, I need something to fill my time and apparently this thread is today's coin-itch ... Amazingly, I've only purchased "14" ancient coins during the first-quarter of 2015 ... if this current pace continues, then at year-end I'll have snagged a measly "56" coins in 2015 (which may seem like plenty to some of you, but it'd certainly be less than my previous torrid pace!!) ... apparently, this budget-thingy is gonna cramp my style a tad?!! (oh well, it'll all be good) => Oh, and please don't feel obligated to comment or hit "like" ... I am merely soothing my OCD by organizing my coins and keeping all of my pretty bobbles in order (thanks for understanding and accepting my semi-obsession, my coin-friends) 1) => January 10th => Achaean League, Pallantion AR Tetrobol 1st Century BC Diameter: 15.1 mm Weight: 2.3 grams Obverse: Laureate head of Zeus Reverse: Monogram of the Achaian League 2) => January 14th => BRUTTIUM, Rhegion. (*sigh*) ... thanks for taking a peek
You have certainly obtained some interesting coins little brother. The Larissa coin is my fav, followed closely by the Kebren and Amisos coins.
It's a lovely, eclectic set, Steve. You're way ahead of me. These aren't the only coins I've bought since January, but one of my goals this year is to assemble a strong set of LRB types. I'm looking for distinctive style, strong strikes, and smooth, clean surfaces. So I suspect I'll be buying far fewer coins than last year as I'm aiming for quality over quantity...
Beautiful coins guys...Apparently my already blown monthly budget is considerably less than many of yours, since all of the coins are exceptional Anyway, I'll download a few of my purchases from Heritage, Forum etc--and their photos--later this week.... By the way, any of you live on Long Island?? I'd love to see some of these collections in person..
Well, Steve lives up North with the Eskimos. I'm in PA, but that's still a hike. The advantage of this forum is that we have a coin club right here, no commuting necessary!
great first quarter coin report stevex! if you didn't buy another coin the rest of the year it would be a fantastic 2015. .....of course we know that isn't going to happen! and JA has a very nice LRB streak going. i'm tied with JA at 6 ancients (i've purchase 6 modern coins as well)....but have a few incoming. and my fav....
There are still two weeks left in the quarter so stop being a defeatist and buy 15 more. You can do it, Steve. We know you can. I only have 11 (already shown here) so far but have faith (and a show in Baltimore on the 28th) to see me through. Get busy.
=> wow Doug => my wife would fake a right and then tag you directly in the throat with a stiff left!! (please don't wake the beast!!) ... thanks, my coin friend hey, but seriously => this is your time to "puff-up" and show your 2015 to date coins!! (I love seeing everybody's coins all at once => it often shows their interests/trends/tastes) ... => so again, my amazingly awesome coin-friends ... I/we would love to see your 2015 collections!! Cheers Oh, and thanks to chrsmat, JA, and Mikey Zee ... => thanks for posting, fellas (great looking 2015-coins)
Okay I've not yet posted two of the coins but will go ahead and show them in this group shot. While the two previously unrevealed coins may not win a beauty pageant, each is special.
Guys, I thought I'd share two others I have...Obviously Germanicus and Magnentius, AE As and double centenionalis....And thanks for the comments...I must admit I had to have the M anthony real bad!! I had about eight of them ranging from vg-fine, sold them and just had to have a high grade version with all the details and legio # clear and unmistakable...At first I was trying to have each and every one of Anthonys' legions represented...Anyway, I'm filling up my old Emperor album, up-grading here and there and about 3/4 complete with a few still on Forum lay-a-way...Almost had a decent Pupienus but lost out and haven't pulled the trigger on a lower grade budget version yet..I might give the E-bay seller a 'best offer' of about $75.00 less than he lists it for..Maybe not LOL... Hope to see some more of your holdings guys... Steve and Mat---Great coins!!! I wish I had a few of them...
