You have your opinion, and I have mine. If you don't like my opinion, then you should just ignore it. Chris
I think you would find that the majority of regular users either stay with just one or two subforums, or just keep clicking the NEW Posts button, so my suggestion is for those who want this to start each such thread with 'PHOTO: " or "PHOTO INTEREST:" or whatever. With a common prefix, a simple search would separate the posts from the general mass for those interested. If clicking on the 'NEW' brings up significant number and quality of threads over time, I might be more positive on it, but once a forum is official, it is hard to delete or merge into others. Jim
I like @desertgem 's idea. Maybe if a few people start doing it, it will catch on. How about a "sticky" in some forum that could act as a FAQ and another where people could showcase their best pics?
It wouldn't be a separate website; just a different place here on CoinTalk. Most of what I read is by clicking "New Posts" anyway. This would just be a way to keep them all in one place for those who like to browse or if you're looking for a particular thread.
"Be careful what you wish for, you may just get it" I voted NO, for reasons already explained by other posters. However, I do like the "prefixing" idea of starting these types of threads with "PHOTO:" to make searches more efficient and useful.
I voted no. I really like the idea, but like cpm9ball said, there will be some who can create quality photos, and those who cannot. If there was a standard that could be applied to the photographs (lighting, lens focal length for certain size coins, background etc), and this could be used affordably by collectors, then I'd like a photography forum. Perhaps someone should develop an affordable "kit" that includes lighting, digital microscope/ or camera, background, etc.? Like a DIY photograde that users can do themselves... hmm.
Hmmm...I think that we all come here to share knowledge. Some folk we learn from, some we teach. Some folk are just starting out and some are masters of their fields. I can understand why someone may not wish to stumble over thread that is filled with photos especially if looking on gprs or low bandwidth broadband. I'm not sure why photography is singled out especially as lots of folk here take snaps of their coins. I would have thought that there would have been sufficient interest but seemingly wrong.
