I see this coin up for auction on Great Collections. I was thinking of bidding on this coin. I don't know much about this series, but it would go along with my Type set I am putting together. The starting bid is 1650.00. I know the large 8 variety is the more favorable of the series. Compared to non error 1812's the price is dramatically different. I have saved a tremendous amount of money for such a purchase. It's an exciting feeling to save and save and I have been looking at other different coins as well, but I keep coming back to this one. Do you think it would go beyond 2000? Pics are from Great Collections.
I'd wait and get one with original skin as I think yours was dipped before . It's well worth the wait as my 1812 Bust half is original skinned a PCGS-55 CAC that when I look at it under a loupe and tilt it in different directions some of the colors are just amazing . I have a '26 like yours and every time I look at it I wish it wasn't so white for a 200 year old coin . They're out there it just takes patience which you have by saving that amount , I think you'll be glad you did .
It looks like this also has a die clash. Beneath the US in Pluribus and over the left wing, and on the breast and behind the hair on the obverse. Value I do not know but it is a lovely coin.
Thanks for your input. I am still looking and I do have the patience, that's for sure. I started to put together a type set, which, when completed, will consist of 1812, 1912, 2012. I'll be collecting every denomination from those years, in the most affordable price for me. My grand children will have to complete the 2112 set. HA, ha.....
Also I think your's is an O-102 which as an R-2 is readily available , though I do like the clash marks they are on about 1/2 of the O-102 coins .
I agree with Greg, starting price is already full price for the coin. I would say that everytime that I have recieved a coin from Great Collections, it was much nicer than the image showed. They do a deplorable job of imaging the coins.
