Got this on eye appeal. Would anyone be kind enough to venture on the grade? I am inclined understand its a proof. I haven't purchased one of these before, and would love to confirm that. Grade? Thanks for your time, Brian
I call it a PF-62RB. The spots on the reverse bother me. Had they not been there, I would have called it a 64. Nice coin!
The strike on Liberty looks great--but you see this on MS coins too. One quality of proof IHCs over MS--the rims are very square/sharp on proofs, more rounded on MS. From your pics, especially on the rev, I'm leaning towards MS.
The color of the head, the different/ lighter color (like a cameo) is what was making me think this was Proof. None of my MS or AU coins have this look.
the edge details? Square sharp corners, or rounded corners? Circulation strikes will not stand on their edge.
The cameo effect also happens on MS coins when the fields on the die are given a high polish. If you coin is struck before this polish is worn away, it will have a nice cameo effect too--like yours. So the mechanics of the strike need to be considered--proofs will always have those sharp, square rims. This picture shows how sharp and square the rims should be...
Amazing, there is so much in the eye of the beholder. I will have the coin in hand soon, will check out the depth of the rim and the strike qualities. Again, I got this primarily because I loved the look. I'm hoping that it is one of value also.
