Just curious as to what other sites you find informative, useful, etc. I saw this one CCF and are any of you there? Good/bad/otherwise? I'm not leaving here, just looking for other venues that might enlighten me.
I've been a member of the NGC forums for a little more than 10 years. There are a lot of good people over there, but it is a bit slower than here. Chris
I'm on coin community with only 10 posts, I like Cointalk better. I'm also on a metal detecting forum, ironically I have more posts there than here, close to 1,700 posts over there.
I post on a ancient coin dealers board and the PCGS board. I prefer here the most but have no issues with the PCGS board either. Some good people there too.
Yep, full moon over So Cal...I really need to photograph some of my coins, but this was the closest thing I have, LOL. I like your avatar too, looks kind of familiar.
I love CCF but understand they tread a difficult line. Most websites simply exclude youngsters so they don't fall a foul of the US COPA rules. CCF actively seeks out YNs and so the site is policed with a bit of a heavy hand. Bad language, etc. gets pulled. Fast. But there is a huge amount of information freely exchanged over there and so you just learn to watch you b*tch*ng and moaning [substituting *s for vowels in a transparent attempt to work around swear words filters is, for example, a no-no]. Pretend you have a 6 year old nephew you want to get interested in our wonderful hobby and do not want to explain to your sister where he learned THAT word...
I've been on CCF for probably longer than this site. It has it's ups and downs. Being a foreign coin guy I like that they have separate sections for Canadian, British and Australian coins. This has the benefit of concentrating very knowledgeable people on those coins. I also enjoy their identification section. But, the world coins section leaves much to be desired. It's mostly people asking about one type of coin, Mexican 8 reales. And the trolling is somewhat high. There are a few really knowledgeable specialists on there, but overall I find the people here to be more knowledgeable. I'm also a member on the PCGS forum (Collectors Universe), that site has lots of specialists and very little of novice or newbie collectors asking about "is this real" "how much is it worth" "what is it". Some people like those questions, myself included, but some prefer not to be bothered. There is also much less daily posting in the world coins section, though the US coins section is basically overwhelming traffic.
Love the error section over at CCF for just learning errors. I just sit back most times and take notes. The information there has put a few dollars in my pocket!
Correct - that is a No-No here indeed. See here in case anybody does not remember. As for other sites, well, here and elsewhere I focus on the the topics/forums that I find interesting. Coin Talk and Coin Community have been mentioned; others are worldofcoins.eu (English), emuenzen.de (German) plus a few others where I browse but not or hardly ever post - munthunter.nl and numismatikforum.de for example. Christian
Not to mention the photography section. A couple of world-class coin photographers teach a masters class for free..
I post more on this site than NGC. I've probably learned more over at NGC numismatically speaking. I spend equal amounts of time on both sites. I lurk at PCGS.
I used to be on several boards more than now since I serve here. My top 3 coin boards are CT, Numis$ociety, and CCF. I love Missy and the group @ N$, so I would probably haunt that one if I get banned or from here. One can learn from forums, but doing your own research is more important and lasting than ONLY asking for a grade , or is this a DD, etc.
NGC has a WYNTK thread with tons of great information. When I first joined, I read almost every thread. Very informative and accelerated the learning curve a ton.
I'm on CCF and find it interesting I only do tokens so some times it is a little slow in that area but it seems to be the forum people with the dearly deaparteds box of treasures find first, so it has a lot of ancients. And a lot of fakes and copies of them that disapoint a lot of people. It is interesting.
