    Hi all,

    not ancient but found by myself with metal detector.
    reference.

    Mintmark. sea mermaid

    Obv. MO.NO.ARG.CIV.GRONINGÆ 1691
    Crowned coat of arms of Groningen, split denomination on both sides 6 S

    Rev. CONCORDIA.RES.PARVÆ.CRESCUNT.
    Armored knight with sword raised.
    Seated on a horse galloping to the right.

    Until 1795 there was the Dutch Republic. The Republic consisted of seven provinces which were fairly autonomous. Those were the provinces of Groningen, Friesland, Overijssel, Gelderland, Utrecht, Holland and Zeeland. Drenthe, Brabant and Limburg were ruled directly from The Hague. Which construction no longer worked, and the Netherlands was politically and economically weakened touched during the 18th century. Thus, the area was a relatively easy target for revolutionary France. In 1795, the French withdrew therefore within, as liberators by many who brought the old state were tired.     The years 1690-1699 (the Christian era) are a decade in the 17th century.

    The Nine Years' War was a failed attempt by Louis XIV to the rest of Europe subordinate to France.

    The grand coalition under the leadership of William III of Orange, the French forces eventually to give back all their conquests since 1678.



    Republic of the United Netherlands
    1691 - The pastor of Amsterdam, Balthasar Bekker, writes the book The enchanted world in which he is opposed to the widespread belief in witches and devils. He then put out of the office. In the Republic creates a fierce dispute between supporters and opponents of the book. Ultimately, the book leads to elimination of the witch persecution.

    1694 - In the Netherlands guilder generality comes into circulation.
