I don’t know if this has been mentioned before but “Kudos to NGC”!

I didn’t realize this but NGC has photos available for some of the different varieties that they attribute (I imagine that as time goes on they will add more to fill in some of the holes).

I was just checking out the Kennedy half dollars when I noticed this (you don’t have to be a member) and after a quick check I see this is for other series also.

    From this link: http://www.ngccoin.com/coin-varieties/
You should be able to locate the series you are looking for. If there is a little camera icon at the beginning of the variety you are looking for then click on the date. The pictures are better then what is in the Cherrypickers’ Guide and should be an aid to the collector if that is the only reference book you have.

Enjoy, and again KUDOS to NGC for providing this to the collecting community.

That's a useful online reference. From what I see, the pictures are of a good resolution, sometimes better than the diagnostic shots in published variety guides I own. :D

I am not sure if this will post as a link or not.
Either way this is my go to for all thing variety: they have a wealth of info and update the site regularly. They have done a grand job of combining the efforts of several coin sites and many coin-heads all in one very handy and informational e-book that is free for everyone. No membership needed. They are just good people wanting to further their own education and help others dothe same in all things variety. I myself love it. Before joining this forum I would go there and search, search search then read, read, read to find out what I had or have. I did learn a lot that way. I must say the forum is easier and you get to chit chat with wonderful numismatics. I do love good research though. I was not savvy in the forum arena, so I never joined one till now, tI still do not know what all the icons are for when posting but I know enough. Life is glorious!

Do go to varietyvista it is a great site.

Yes I am aware of the “Variety Vista” web site and visit it several times a week. There is no “THEY” at Variety Vista, it is owned and solely operated by Dr. James Wiles.

To give credit where credit is due, there is no “combining of efforts of several coin sites and many coin-heads” at Variety Vista, the entire site is maintained by and all of the books on the site are authored by Dr. James Wiles himself. Several of the books Dr. Wiles has voluntarily made access free while others are for sale and he charges a modest fee for.

I wouldn’t say that Dr. Wiles updates the information on the site regularly; the last time that the “CONECA Master Listing” was updated on was 03/17/2014 (nearly one year ago). I do understand that “time” is a limited resource for Dr. Wiles, with trying to work on several book projects, attributing coins for individuals (just last month we sent in a box with over fifty Kennedy half dollars to be attributed), maintaining his regular job plus his family obligations I imagine Dr. Wiles will update the CONECA listings when time permits.

Not taking anything away from Variety Vista, the purpose of this thread was to give credit to NGC for building a photo resource of different markers of die varieties from several different series that they recognize, several of the die varieties are not photographed on Variety Vista.

Excuse me,:( I am sorry if I offended you. I had no intention to do so. I did not realize credit was the idea of this thread. I was just adding some extra information fot those who may not know. Thanks for straightening me out about the facts on "the other site". Please, have a purrfectly:cat: glorious evening.
