First the Flying Spaghetti Monster, now rampant wolves and bears and goats? What the hell is going on around here today?? Congrats on your first Celtic!
"Baby Elephants Play Pat-a-Cake" => Man, that is a pretty sweet description of what I see when I gaze upon that awesome coin!! (great new addition, Pishpash) ... that's a fun coin!!
I like it. Who doesn't like baby animals? I don't care what they are . . . cute comes to mind. What a coin. Having similar Obv. and Rev. it is like getting two for the price of one, and it is a nice example of a big coin, to boot. You have done well.
On a serious note, is there any scholarship on the dating of these coins? Were these the Senones that settled in Italy around 400 BC and later? Or are they the Senones that engaged in hostilities with Julius Caesar much later?
i haven't seen anything quite like that pish, what an interesting coin! the obverse looks like those ghosts that hung out with casper...but kind of his frienemies.
@JA the date that the seller (and wildwinds) gives is 100-60 BC so I assume that it could be either tribe. the only information I have been able to find on the coin has come from wildwinds. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/celtic/gaul/senones/t.html
Tapirs are native to Central and South America and Southeast Asia. Not likely to be seen on an old world coin.
