Well i didnt take any chances... and just so u know the dealer claiming the slab was opened isnt who bought the coin... it felt and looked like glue down the right seam... and if u held it up to the light u couldnt see thru it... right or wrong i traded it off for this coin and $25 then took the money and bought a really neat hand carved piece of green jade from china while @ the antique show..
Some dark messy stuff on the face. To me ICG grades alot better than anac. I had a 1944 D Mercury Dime MS 67 and it looks alot more flashy than this coin
I really like the obverse of the quarter, but the reverse looks dark and unattractive. I'd call it a split grade 65+/64. Since the obverse carries it, the final net grade is 65.
I quite like both sides, including the toning on the reverse. I graded the obverse 66. The reverse is clean enough for a 66, but IMO the toning mutes the luster enough to drag the coin down one grade at PCGS (as Lehigh mentioned). IMO it would have graded 65 at PCGS (it's always nice to scroll down the page and find your guesses are correct). Personally this is the sort of coin I would jump on because a '45-S in 66 is ~ a $100 coin, while in 65 it's ~ a $35 coin. While the toning mutes the luster on the reverse, IMO it is still attractive toning.
