Is this a die crack? I have seen smaller ones but not this bad.

Yes it is. It is referred to as a "Libierty" error. It is very common on Lincoln cents from the 1950's. It is caused because a piece of a die chipped of between the "B" and "E"

    Very cool

This is referred to as a die break and happened quite often on wheat cents of the time. Collectible for me for sure.

Thanks for the info I am just stating to go through all my Lincoln cents. I received my new digital microscope and there will be more questions to come. I have more than 1000 Lincoln cents that I have to go through.

I have several. It's called a BIE cent. I learned that here and there are several websites that specialize in this error. Though not as pronounced, it also appears to be something going on in the field over the date.

Edit to add: and Lincoln's chin.

What kind of scope did you get - seems to take pretty good pics. I've been wanting to get one but you know the saying - "wanting is one thing but getting is another":D

    Agreed, what was the scope?

My scope cost 59.99 through Ebay I have attached a photo. This is a great scope because you can adjust the focal length. Do not let the picture fool you this is very compact. At the maximum focal length it is only about 9" tall.

Remember If you do not get a microscope with an adjustible focal length you can run into problems taking pictures of larger coins.

Does it come with software so you can rotate the photo?

OH, OK - saw that before and 60$ is great - easy to install the software and set up?? I read where some people had problems - but you know "some people!"
Comes with everything? even camera, well at least small optical that takes the pic USB and goes to the installed computer program? Just asking - all I got is Kodak easy share - I know , right next to my 1958 John Deere and my corn shucker!:D:D

I always say once a farmer always a farmer, just in a smaller quantity. I'm down to a quarter acre to my garden just for self canning my veggies. Nothing better than making soups & sauces with home canned tomatoes!!!!
