We saw the same exhibit. It came to Seattle when I was in high school, and we took a field trip to see it. Even as an intellectually inchoate teenager, I remember being awed by all the artifacts, in particular a large sarcophagus.

BTW- Im not sure if you guys are aware, Someone broke the beard off of King Tut's mask then used an epoxy to "glue" it on. It looked like hell and they further ruined the mask by scraping the glue off and tearing up the gold.

Many posts removed! Exactly what do those who posted think "no religion, no political Posts" MEAN. Peter has an alternate site for such discussion, it is NOT Here!
There is importance to ancients here, so I am letting the thread stagger on, but next political or religion related posts will have problems, Thanks Jim

What is certainly true - and this is a political post only in a wide sense, I think - is that many museums will now be more careful (or have already become cautious) when it comes to repatriating exhibits. Around here, the museums in Paris, London or Berlin for example have lots of antiquities from the Middle East, acquired in, well, various ways. Sending anything "back home" has always been a sore subject, but hardly anybody here would support that if the risk of such objects being stolen or destroyed is so imminent ...

    Dear All,

I was also very shocked, I wanted to visit these places when Saddam was still in power, then it was ok to go there.
After checking the film again, I saw that many statues where not looking like original only the large Assyrian wing statue looked indeed the one found by Layard.
I think the people at the museum knew they where coming and removed many items to secret places as they have done before.
So I really hope there is still much left.
A year ago I saw information that the guards had trouble to secure Ninive, but where still active.
Locals wanted to cut statues and sell them in pieces.
I am glad the Nimrud stones are in the British Museum(lion hunt).

But Anbar prov, is overrun by the idiots so also Babylon and many other famous places are located in the vicinity, for those I fear the end up also in a disaster.

    Good evening from the Netherlands,
