http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190092794690 I think we all realize what is wrong in this auction, but I am concerned not everyone out there does. Evidently it even had a bid. I wrote the individual pointing out the problem, and their response was: " I was only joking, everyone knows better" Is this the demented sens of humor that is out there these days?:rolling:
Thats totally rediculous. Why would someone ruin a perfectly good Peace dollar for a joke. He states that its a Philadelphia coin but it clearly has a mint mark on the reverse. Im really glad someone didnt do this to a 1928-P Peace dollar. That is certainly twisted.
The listing is not noted as "Revised", which means that clear, prominent statement was in the listing from the start. What makes you think it was a genuine dollar (bullion value ~$9.00) to start with? The high bidder knowingly paid $8 (incl. S/H) for a novelty piece which almost certainly isn't silver. What's the problem?
Roy,that vendor is braindead. That has to really raise a red flag,as it looks like it is made of lead.As for the '1828',that is definitely the biggest giveaway that item is definitely a dud. Aidan.
No problem here...just an observation. Im apparently wrong with my observation. I've been wrong once before.:kewl:
Aidan, why the he** don't you read posts before you respond to them? What is "braindead" about honestly offering a truthfully described copy for sale at a reasonable price for what it is? Which is perfectly consistent with the auction description of a copy, and my comments "What makes you think it was a genuine dollar (bullion value ~$9.00) to start with?" and "a novelty piece which almost certainly isn't silver" The Seller did not claim that it was real!
Why cant we just respectfully correct someone with out being verbally abusive and sarcastic. I thought this was supposed to be a forum to help, not humiliate. I admit I may have been wrong but these responses in my opinion are a little over the top. Im hereby cancelling my contest and going to another forum.
This seller does like to sell copies! Nothing wrong with that except it should be indicated in the auction title, not just in the description. I know a few folks who will see something & bid without actually reading the item description. Especially if it is close to the end of an auction.:hammer:
I'm not gettin in on the Drama that seems to be running with this one, but I do have a questions about the coin pictured in that auction... Please, Forgive my ignorance as I'm still learning... But, Didn't the "Peace Dollar" start in 1921??? Why would anyone fake/make one with date of 1823 or 18xx??? Me=Lost!!!
This is what the seller has posted THIS IS A 1828 PEACE DOLLAR THAT I FOUND AT A FLEA MARKET. IN ACTUALITY IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY GOOD COPY OF THE COIN
The auction title is a bit deceptive, HOWEVER, with that being said. If one should bid on this coin without reading it all. They bought what they deserve. First off is the date issue. 1828 on a Peace? I for one am tired of all of the fakes or copies on ebay. I think ebay should have a place for fakes or copies that is separate of the real deals. Maybe it can be called Coins by Cons? I can not tell you how many of the "Exact Copy" coins I have looked at while doing a search for a key coin. This is no different. As a side note. I hope Indianhead don't leave the forum over this. The harshness of the reply was/is uncalled for. I think somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
If you look to to the right of the first 8, it looks like there is some damage there. I personally think the date was altered, but I may simply be too tired to tell.
From where I'm standing, Aidens comments were not directed at him, unless of course he was the vender/seller of said coin...
never bid unless you read the copy...INCLUDING shipping charges!! I got burned on a .99 cent coin with a 5 dollar shipping charge because I didnt read it...the only one looking out for you is you on ebay.
That's very true. That's one of the reasons that your user agreement specifies that you must be an adult, capable of making adult decicions, in order to register. However, I would like to point out that there are many other eBayers who are more than willing to "look out" for your best interests. Many can be found right here on CoinTalk. Many others can be found on other coin forums. All it takes is enough effort to ask for help and advice. You don't have to go it alone.
??? What verbal abuse and sarcasm? Everything I've seen was a honest and sincere answer to the topic in question, not once did I see anything close to an attack on the people who's opinions were disagreed with. Think you're making a mountain out of a molehill here.
