Sand is a part of ancient coins. Better live it as it was findet. Alexander coin is a good exampel. Not cleaned is better looking. Claudius is very nice coin.

This has got me wondering about an Arcadius I bought.

I am going to leave it as it is. It is the first Arcadius I have managed to obtain with a decent legend.

Other than the fact that we suspect all sand patinas, I see nothing to make me suspect this Arcadius is not original. It is a sad truth that there are coins of Arcadius and Honorius that I can't ID as to which ruler it is. If you are looking for well made and well centered coins, try the larger AE2 size. The really scrappy ones tend to be smaller. This is a nice obverse and a decent coin overall.
