Okay...found this cent in the petty cash at work. Not sure what is going on with it. I will have to get some better photos, but here is a start to what it looks like. It is much thinner than a normal cent. Only has a reverse (no obverse). Does not look like a planchet issue? Wondering if it is some type of manufacturing error, or some post mint exercise by someone. Let me know your thoughts.

What leaves the silver color? Is the center of a cent planchet not copper colored?

Correct. Since 1982, Lincoln Cents have had a Zinc Core with a 1 mil copper plating.

Can you post a better close-up of the 4th photo? The silver side looks like the diameter is larger that that of the reverse side.

if it was put to a grinder or belt sander, it could easily push the metal and expand it to a larger size...

I doubt that a grinder or sander could do it and keep it evenly spaced.

It looks like it may have been filed from different directions which would push the metal all the way around.

It does look from scratches to go in many different directions....the zinc is now larger than the copper clad reverse, and fairly evenly at that. Thanks for the info by all, I am guessing this is now just like a dollar bill that has been ripped in half.

ahhh, so you've never held a penny to a belt sander or wheel grinder (with work gloves on of course) to see how fast it will spin under your thumb before the belt or stone grabs it and shoots it to the ceiling?? :D

Nope, but I could make a zip gun from a car antenna and kill rats in the city dump.
