A repunched date (or RPD) happens on older coins, mostly from the 19th century, when the date was added to the die later. Sometimes the date wasn't positioned right the first time, and so they punched it a second time. Here's a really dramatic one on an IHC from 1894. There are a lot of these to be found on Indian cents.
