I have an 1875 S twenty cent piece with what appear to definitely be chopmarks....

I know trade dollars of the era have them, is it possible for other denominations like the 20 cent to have them as well?

I've never seen a 20 cent with chopmarks before...

The trade dollars were produced with the intent of using them for trade with the Orient. It's possible that some other denominations may have made their way to the Asian market, but I'd like to leave this for others with more knowledge on the subject. Photos would help!

I have never seen one myself, and my misfortune continues, even with your post.

    hope the pics are ok...

    the obverse marks are obvious

the reverse has a sideways W (or M) symbol and another mark on the left wing, as well as a mark on the crotch of the eagle

I think it was defaced or has post mint damage. Not chopmarks.

All I see is PMD. Here is a photo of typical chopmarks.

This looks like just damage to me. I have never seen chopmarks that look like that.

Must agree with the other posters, it appears to be "graffiti" rather than a chop mark. :)

I call these "chisel coins", Mike. Someone took a chisel or another flat tool and decided they didn't like your coin. I see this kind of damage a lot on 20th century English and Irish coins struck as a political protest. The marks usually deface the King or Queen, or in the case of Irish coins, the harp or the word "Eire".
