    Besides the stiff neck I'm getting trying to see it right-side-up I don't know where the wear is you're seeing.

    Never use your fist to grade a coin.

    I would say, 45 or 50.

    I was thinking because of the wear on the hair. Was I correct in that observation.

    Mike trying to learn how to grade coins based on pictures in a book is beyond tough. Why ? Because you can take 100 of those nickels that all grade exactly the same, and 75 of them will look completely different than all the rest, or your baseline picture.

    If you want to learn how to grade get yourself a couple books, the ANA grading guide and the PCGS grading guide. Then use the written descriptions they use and forget about pictures. Pictures will just get you in trouble.

    That's just the first step, then you have to looking at coins, in hand, like you are doing.
