Got my coffee this morning and the girld at the register asked if I minded taking this in my change. She said three other people turned it away. Their loss, my gain. img196.jpg img197.jpg

A 77A practically uncirculated with a nice ink smear... Nice, wonder where that's been hiding. I would take those all day long!

Tommy, do you recall reading several years ago about a tour bus driver from Baltimore who was arrested for trying to pass counterfeit $2 bills at a Mickey D's?
He tried to pay for his breakfast with them, and the clerk said they were counterfeit just because she had never seen one before. The manager agreed with the clerk and the Baltimore police were called. The police had never seen one of these notes, so the bus driver was arrested and taken to the station. The duty sergeant thought they were counterfeit, so Secret Service agents were called in from DC. When the agents arrived and were told the story, they took one look at the $2 bills and asked, "What's wrong with them?"

Needless to say, the lawsuits were quietly settled out of court.

Give me a buck to throw in my freezer and it's sold! Anyone have any idea what this might be worth in general? I'm betting because of the condition of this one that it probably just came from someone's collection. It's been in the wilds for 38 years.

Good story! Not enough collectors out there I guess. And it would be just like me to get some $2.00 bills and try this. Heck, I could use some lawsuit money. LOL.

I would bet you could get at least $15 to $20 on eBay.

    It's worth more than face.

I paid $40 for this back in 2009.

I believe they call it a SOLVENT smear.

The offer was a joke and recognized as such. Cue calm :)

Regarding "solvent smear," couldn't you fake one of these by dripping the right solvent down the sides of a bill held vertically?

It looks like the results of a lie detector test.

Probably not. If you used enough to smear the ink on one side, you'd likely never be able to prevent the solvent from soaking through the paper.

The US still prints millions of $2 bills. I've had friends in elementary school show these to me and they weren't collectors, they spend them at stores. How could a clerk have never seen one?

Sorry hoarder, you vastly over-estimate the level of alertness of the majority of the population. How do you think ONE SIDED fake bills get successfully passed? No body looks...

What offer? There is no such valid number in the posts. This is a joke as old as Methusla.
