I got this at the Baltimore show in November. I just took it out of the flip to put it in my 7070 album but I noticed a chip at about 2oclock on the reverse. Has anyone seen this before?

What date/mint, and can we see a head-on orientation of the other side? I'm seeing a very, very strange-looking "cud," or break in the die.

Yeah, a lamination tear. I think I'm better with that.

Does this type of error detract from the value?

    That's a cool lamination error!

Those pictures are good enough. On the value, you're in a slightly different market, an error market. It's a cool lamination error.

I never really got into errors so maybe I'll find someone that would be interested in a trade for a comparable type 1

Come on Eddie. He shows us a Type 1 Buffalo with no mintmark, what year and mint do you think it is? ;)

I don't know them like that, that well. Now that I think of it, it's the only thing in numismatics I don't know. :)

Time to get the book out eddiespin. It was a one year type, Buffalo on the mound. Type two was on a plain.

Neat find. Did you pay a premium for it, or think the dealer even knew it was an error?

If I remember correctly I paid $40 for it. There were no indications that he knew of the error. He didn't mention it and it wasn't written on the 2x2

A fair price, imho. I'd bet though he knew of the mark, and thought he got a great deal on selling a PMD buff. Without magnification, that could be the first logical conclusion.

Actually, I'm not really into these, much, not anymore...but, you're right.

I'm thinking AU-50, I'm guessing some people on here will say EF-45 though.
