The seller has a reputation among many that is less then positive. The coin can be had in a PCGS holder for 250 as a MS65 if your patient a nice one can be found at that price level. The coin is question has the larger nick you mentioned and will always have that and the real possibility is the coin may be a MS64 and may come back as such. Why buy that coin for 150 or whatever it closes at , no way its a 66 it may on a lark be a 65 but 64 is best guess and if it is cleaned and comes back genuine your really stuck. The images are rally not good enough to tell much about the surfaces dies polish lines are present but are there hairlines there as well and who can really tell based on the images.
Agree with the other posters regarding this seller and their images and less than stellar repututation. You really can't grade with these images. The plus is they do accept returns.
Thanks for the heads up on this seller. I have watched several auctions of theirs but haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet.
So after reviewing all the feedback I have a question. So 14 out of 24,000--is a pretty good ratio. So I have to ask myself--is the majority of the buyers uninformed and they think they have a good deal. Or do they just not want to be bothered returning a coin--which seems a bit crazy to me if they have spent a decent amount of money. If GSC were a scam--don't you think there would be a lot more complaints then 14? Or is it more likely that some of their coins are questionable--but not the majority? HMMM. That being said--I'm probably not going to bid on that 1936s--mainly because of the large nick in the hair--that alone would probably keep it from a 65. I'm going to call them direct and ask about that coin--I would be curious to see what they say.I will post the results if I can actually talk to a live person, lol. Someone mentioned that if the coin goes for $150 - $200 why bother when you can get a graded one in the $250 range--that makes sense as well. Have to keep in mind that even graded coins can come back in a lower range.
So I called GSC direct and had a decent conversation with Bobby--he has been my contact in the past. I told him I had reservations about this coin(1936s) for a couple of reasons. One was the nicks on the obverse side, and the other was if the coin was cleaned. He said this particular coin has not been cleaned--according to him. He did say that in his opinion the reverse would grade out around ms65, but the nicks on the obverse would keep it around an ms63. In his words if I want a true ms65--I should NOT buy this coin and hold out for a better one. That seems like a pretty honest conversation to me. He did say that if there is a coin that have bad hairlines or appears to have been cleaned they make mention of that--but I have to say I've never seen that in any of their descriptions. So needless to say--based upon my conversation and the suggestions of everyone here--I will not be bidding on that coin, lol. He did take my email and said he is attending a major coin how in a couple of weeks and if he finds a graded coin at ms65 he will let me know. So we shall see how it all plays out. Thanks again everyone, Roger
Ebay feedback is not always accurate. I believe sellers can contact eBay to have it changed. In GSC's case, 119 feedbacks have been revised. Also, keep in mind that many people who returned their coins may have left positive feedback.
