Trend and what someone will pay are two different things. Example: I have a 2008 4 coin set of unc, gold buffalo's , trends near $9500.00 there's no line waiting to buy.
But of course, I was just quoting the trends. It could sit on a shelf for a year. But he still did not cut a bad deal for himself personally.
So my next question is if you can find one at that price what makes you think someone else couldn't ? Or even less. Just food for thought . ...as us older collectors search and research before we pull the trigger . Why tie up your funds on something that Can be picked up just about anywhere .
I vote no. You already have an 1896, and the only reason I'd buy another in the same grade would be if it were a "lateral upgrade" (this one's definitely not), in which case I'd sell the first. Buy a different one.
I don't like the coin and you paid full freight on the coin, so I don't think you received any bargain at all on the price.
As a coin dealer it would be a bad buy BUT I am a collector NOT a re-saler & I think I got a okay deal but thank's for the input ! P.S. if you will sell me the same coin/grade/price PLEASE send me picture's !!!
This wasn't written with the idea of cost for inventory; this was a real life price. The last several NGC graded pieces sold for an average of about $170 and the last couple PCGS graded pieces sold for slightly less.
They are not infallible, this IMO is market graded would I buy it as a 64 probably 64+ maybe 65 nope. But I'm hard on Morgans and a mark on the face precludes it from a 65
