Seems the quality is really going downhill. After I returned several coins due to defects, I sent the rest in for grading at NGC. Here is what is just posted for grades. I should have them in hand Fri or Sat. 15 proof dollars - 4 PF70 UC, the rest 69s 10 UNC dollars - 6 MS70, rest 69s (not too bad on these) 6 proof half dollars - 1 PF70 UC, rest 69s...I think this may be the winner in PF70s if the trend continues that most get PF69 or below.
When will ngc publish the first census report. Have They sent out any sells numbers yet? I agree the proof 70 might be a longer term keeper, time will tell.
Could be the quality but remember, there is going to be some slight rub in the flips on the way to the TPG that many do not factor in that can cause a lower grade even if you do the best packing job you can.
I don't put them in flips. I leave them in the capsules and when I pack them, they don't move in the box. I don't want PO people hearing stuff rattling in the box so I pack it so tight that you can't hear anything. I am sure it's more the quality than anything..almost like it was a rush job to get some out for the public. It seems now they are not minting very many to start with almost waiting to see what kind of volume they get on the orders before they make more. I sent back about 9 coins, proof dollars and halves, that were visibly terrible and I would never send in for grading. I have another 10 proof halves on back order. I think those are the best looking coins of the bunch!! Problem with back orders is by the time you get them, if you wanted to get first release labels on them, the time will be past and you just get the regular marshal labels.
