I guess I'd be looking at MS64 (or possibly MS65). According to Greysheet, the years I should look for would be 1882, 1883, and 1884. MS64 "ask" is $245-$275, MS65 ask is ~$530. Again, I don't want rare dates, unique die marriages, etc. Just a nice "CC" for my U.S. Type Set. Am I missing anything? Would those be the years to look for?
1882, 1883 and 1884cc as Doug said. I would get them in GSA holders, as type coins, as they are slightly more desirable than other holders, or raw.
83-CC and 84-CC are pretty easy to find with at least one side PL, so you might consider that as well. There are plenty of these coins out there, so I would take your time and cherrypick a 64 for grade. You want one that has a little extra something that your random 64 doesn't have. Look at enough coins, and you'll know when you see it.
GSA coins are so reasonable, given the lust for CC dollars. Get a nice one that looks as unbaggy as possible, or that has the NGC grading ribbon, and you will love it. I agree that 78cc is also well in play for that price. The easiest to get in nice condition for GSAs are the 82, 83, 84, and shoot for a nice MS 64 by eye or NGC. They are not expensive.
Is your type set in an album? If so, I think it's pointless to get a GSA or any slabbed CC, for that matter. Why pay a premium. There are plenty of 82, 83 & 84 CC's out there that are unslabbed and reasonably priced. Chris
