Might have found 1826/5 1C, not sure. Here is PCGS link, the NGC link doesn't show a closeup at all. NGC says this: Here is my coin: I'm going to try and get a better photo soon. Anyone have experience with this overdate?
It's an N-6. Reverse leaf position in relation to the F in OF, point on left side of F, is diagnostic.
Thanks for the reply. Based on your info, I found this: 1826 1C N-6 "A repunched first A in AMERICA identifies the Newcomb marriage" Sure looks like my coin is a match for N6, seeing that line to the left of the A in America. I assume this precludes it from also being a 1826/5 ? (N-8)
Correct, the n8 and n6 varietes use different dies, so they can not be the same. There are lots of features for this die, and the recut A is one. Looks like an early die state, prior to the crack from star 1 to the bust.
Easy way to tell if you have a 26/5 is to look at the relationship of star 6 and the point of the coronet. The 26/5 is the only one where the star points to the LEFT of the point of the cornet. On all the others it either points at the point or to the right of the point.
