Hello! My dad got this coin from a friend who claims it's from Medieval France. It's very thin and I don't know much about it. Can someone help me? Thanks! Medieval_Coin_A.jpg

it looks like it could be a denier tournois of Louis IX, 1226-1270

    Duplessy 193, maybe

Hopefully one of the world-dudes notices your sweet coin (sadly, although it looks good to me, I don't know enough about this coin-era to give you any relevant info)

... oh, but it sounds like john82 has a good read on your Dad's cool coin ...

    cheers

Turok, I collect Ancients and not medieval coins, but I recently bought one from France, a Valence, Bishops of Valence and Die, Denier. It too is very, very thin.

If you look at the current auction for CNG (auction 345) They have a bunch of this stuff in there right now. You might be able to identify it through those means.

I think the first suggestion is the most correct.
Before making any suggestion i would just start to read what's on the coin, for it is well readable:
Cross side: Ludovicus Rex, so king Louis.
Other side (That's supposed to be a cathedral or castle in the middle): Turonus Civi
    So city of Tours.
These coins were issued under the rule of both Louis VIII and IX.

Thank you for the help. I think it's made of silver.

I was unsure where to ask. I asked here because the coin looks older than most of the other coins in the World Coin forum.
