Here is another coin I acquired recently. I know we have discussed these and shown our coins in the not too distant past, but because it's slow, post them again.

My new coin is slightly different from the old in that Augustus' head is bare in the old coin while he is laureated on the new. First the new coin:

    Nimes OBV.JPG Nimes REV.JPG
    AUGUSTUS
    AE Dupondius
OBVERSE: IMP DIVI F P-P, back-to-back heads of Agrippa, in rostral crown, & Augustus, laureate
REVERSE: COL NEM, palm tree curving to left, crocodile right chained below, wreath to left of palm tip with long ties trailing to right
    Nemausus (Gaul) 20-10 BC
    11.97g, 26mm
    RIC 159

    Augustus17 obv_opt.jpg
    Augustus17 rev_opt.jpg
    AUGUSTUS
    AE Dupondius
OBVERSE: IMP DIVI F, back-to-back heads of Agrippa, wearing rostral crown, & Augustus, bare
REVERSE: COL NEM, crocodile chained to palm, wreath with long ties trailing above.
    Nemausus (Gaul) 20-10 BC
    13.1g, 26mm
    RIC 155

Nice, Bing... that looks just about perfectly centered. I wish my coin had a slightly larger flan.

Heh, I think I'll have to hang on to mine for now. But if you ever tire of the two old broads on your other coin, look me up :D.

Someday I'll upgrade this incidentally acquired COL NEM. It was a surprise inclusion in a small lot of Ptolemaic bronzes purchased primarily for the 48 mm Ptolemy II. Condition aside, it does have a nice pedigree, having been acquired by Professor James Eaton in the 1800s and remaining in his family until I became the owner.
