Good evening CT! I have been searching for a 1983 DDR Lincoln and a 1984 Double Ear Lincoln for a few weeks now. I came across this coin on Ebay and would like to know what everyone thinks about the surface of the coin. I am not sure if it is the year (composition of Zinc) that caused the surface to look rough, or if it is something that occurred after PCGS graded it. All thoughts are appreciated. http://www.ebay.com/itm/381149614744
The plating bubbles are very common on '80s Lincolns and have to be lived with sometimes, to a point. The one the OP asked about however is a bit much in my opinion. That and the carbon spots would make me pass on this one. The one ldhair posted is a much, much nicer example.
I agree with that, ^^, the link shows a coin that is IMO, not a great looker. If it was the one ldhair posted I might have bid on it, but not for the one in the link. These two are illustrative of how a same grade on a coin doesn't mean you get the same thing.
Thanks everyone for your input! I am going to pass on the coin and wait for a better example to come up for sale.
I think you will be doing yourself a favor. But you may have to pay more. I looked up some of the 'prices' on this one and it is not that inexpensive. But if you get a really good one, it should last and also continue to be pleasing to look at.
Never found any DD in circulation ever before. Also that 1881's is common and not even worth buying it even with CAC sticker on it. Unless you got it really cheap.
