Just got a 1878 proof indian cent graded by pcgs. just wondering if pcgs sometimes forgets to grade proof coins as cameo. This particular coin is heavily frosted on obverse and reverse of coin which I thought makes this a cameo. Should I resubmit the coin or send it somewhere else. any advice would be great.

They will show it on the label if both sides of the coin earn it.
If it was graded in the early days of PCGS, I'm not sure they showed it on the label.

I don't think they forgot. It's more like very few are truly cameo. Then there are the coins that are referred to as having cameo like appearance, which again may not be true cameo coins. That's why we need photographs.

Larry, I think he implied it was a brand new submission.

Thanks. My brain is a bit slow this time of night.

Well, it's not exactly clear if he meant "Just got a 1878 proof indian cent, graded by pcgs," or "Just got a 1878 proof indian cent graded, by pcgs."

That said, are cameo IHCs relatively much rarer than cameo proof coinage of the same period?

They are much harder to find compared to silver proofs of the same period.

If he just bought the coin, he should have said: I Just got a graded 1878 Indian cent by PCGS. By combining the words "graded" with "by pcgs" at the end of his sentence, he implies it was a new submission.

But keep in mind that PCGS will only designated full red coins as cameo and not red-brown or brown (supposedly). NGC will designated BN and RB coins.
