I was going through some of my aunt's old things and came across this coin. The condition is very good I imagine considering the age. You can see the details of the coin very well if that helps. The coin appears to be struck twice. On the obv the coin was struck the second time about a half inch down and to the left. The other side has two visible dates of 1732 with the second strike appearing left and toward the top. Any help? I have no idea the value of this coin. I know a picture would help, so one may follow. I have heard some of these coins were counterfeited, but after seeing pictures of those online this doesn't seem to be the case. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thx. JMS
Howdy jstew99 - Welcome to the Forum !! It was not unusual for coins from this period to be double struck, so it has no additional value because of the error. Any value the coin may have would be based on its condition and would vary from approx. a few dollars to perhaps $100. Post a pic if you can and we'll try to be more definitive.
Welcome! Hope you enjoy it here. GD has pretty much hit it on the head, and post a pic if you can. Have fun! Phoenix
IMHO it depends on how much off is the Second Strike! It my be a good idea to send the coin to a grading service for Authentication, Certification and Grading with Attiribution of the Error. If the Double Strike is significant, it could add a fair premium to the coin's value or fetching price! Frank
George II coins are not too rare double struck, so it is not a good idea to have it slabbed. Unless it is in a pristine state or very off struck, about 30% more than the spink price.....
