I attended the 2023 NYINC and Vogue Live Knitting (for my wife). We have done this before in one trip. This year it took 2. I brought home some brown treasures. My wife has all of the colors of a rainbow plus a few. The best find was an Athena / Wheel cast coin from Olbia, top right. I think Athena looks like Grue's mother. I found a few inexpensive pocket fillers. They were from an unlabled tray. This 4 gram mini-owl looks ruff. I was afraid it was a modern cast fake. The folks at the ANS said it looked ok. I bought this one because I am looking for Greek letters used by Romans and others as numbers. This one is L IΔ = year 14. My wife bought a few of these.
I can relate as the wife is a crochet maniac.....yarn, yarn everywhere. Nice pickups regarding the show.
@rrdenarius Some really nice additions!! In the first two pics, the coins in the top left, top right and bottom right caught my eye. Where can I learn more about them?
You can find a lot of the Head of Athena / Wheel with four spokes (‘solar disk’) cast bronze coins by searching for Olbia Athena Wheel on acsearch. I have a few books on Greek coins, but they do not say much about cast bronze coins from Olbia. https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1481224I wrote a few words about the Gorgon / sea eagle with dolphin here a few years ago.
