I'll post images in a few minutes. I was just wondering if anyone had ever found a Washington clash, with the feathers clashed between the neck & ponytail? There are also a few other marks, I just haven't seen the feathers like this. I thought they were gouges at first, but they are clash marks.
Your wish is my command, buddy. I've noticed abrasion in that spot, a lot. Just never noticed the feathers clashed.
Yep! They're definitely from a clash. I've never seen that one before. Good eye! Do you happen to notice a similarity to a clash on a totally different type coin? It's interesting. Chris
It's a typical die clash, but a nice one. You don't see them in those areas often. Here's an overlay. http://www.maddieclashes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/40137814.jpg
One of the most common clashes on Morgan dollars is the edge of the wing on the neck of Lady Liberty (obverse clash) and the neck of Lady Liberty on the wing of the eagle (reverse clash). Here is just one example, an 1882-CC VAM-2A1. Scroll down to the first pair of full photos. http://www.vamworld.com/1882-CC+VAM-2A1 Chris
Stupid me, I didn't even think about Morgans. I should have though. I only own 2, a 1900-O & an 1887-P. The '87 is circulated & cleaned, but it is: http://www.vamworld.com/1887-P+VAM-12A
