I like the fact that there are so many different kinds of tokens, and they don't cost much. I think I need some more...
Beautiful tokens Siberian Man! In great shape too. I love the idea of upper and lower Canada. I think they were referring to the fact that before roads there was Quebec, and then you had to portage your canoe up to Upper Canada, further up the St. Lawrence.
I just got a 1/2 penny Bas Canada token from the world coins bin at a coin show. For less than a quarter I got an 1837 token in a lot better shape than this pic. I guess they didn't know what it was, or didn't care. Do you see how fun this Canadian Token thing is?
Nice lookin' tokens, fellas ... yup, ya gotta love dem cool Canadian tokens, eh? Wow Siberian Man => those are some real winners you've got there ... perhaps Canadian Man is a slightly better handle for ya? Bank of Upper Canada One Half Penny (Token PC-5D) 1857 AD Diameter: 27.71 mm Weight: 7.94 grams Obverse: Saint George (lived during the time of Diocletian) riding horse right, slaying dragon with sword Reverse: Coat of Arms of Upper Canada => Sword and Anchor crossed on staff holding crown, below, two crossed cornucopias
*sweet* => wow, you absolutely rag-dolled my poor coin with your amazing proof examples, eh? (well played) ... just jokes, brg5658 (your awesome examples were the reason I went-out and hunted my cool example) ... cheers, my friend!!
Nice Tokens!!!!!! Mine are nowhere as nice as those, condition wise. Here's a really interesting one I found yesterday for $5. I found out that Isaac Brock was the hero of Upper Canada in the war of 1812.
He was the inspiration for Brockville, Ontario. They made some great cast iron pots and pans there also.
C'mon, why no more tokens? Here's a cool one: Maybe this is the first use of a maple leaf in a Canadian coin? It's a nice design.
Here is my first canadian token. Looks like it had a bit of cleaning on the bottom of the reverse, but for a 163 yr. old token, I can only hope to look this good at that age
