The 1904 has very nice detail, but look like it has been cleaned.

I'd agree with @Steve66 that the peso has nice details but appears to have been cleaned at some point. Still a nice coin in my opinion as many of these U.S. pesos have suffered a similar fate or circulated quite heavily. Although originally the 1904 P pesos were minted to be sold in a special U.S. Philippine silver coins mint set at the 1904 Worlds fair. Although they only sold roughly 4000 there and through the Philippine treasury in Manilla combined. The remaining 6000+ were released into circulation.

My Coins, Medals and Tokens of the Philippines reference book by Aldo. P. Basso lists a mintage number of 11,355 for the 1904 P. A number of other sources also list at least 11,000. I'm not sure the exact estimate of survival rates considering a large number of them were sold in special collector sets which perhaps aided survival rates. I'd imagine the collector pieces largely avoided the initial recall in 1906, however who knows how many were melted thereafter till now.

What has a George III countermarked pillar dollar got to do with the Philippines? It appears to be a nice example of a British coin.

That countermark is really cool. I also find the philippine currency cool. If you like stuff associated with the US give some of the 1883 hawaii coins a try. They are pretty neat too

Do you collect counterstamped coins? I find them very interesting and would like to get an example sometime but I just dont know enough about them. I think the older ones with a single counterstamp are the coolest and not the ones countermarked with a bunch of oriental characters.

I spent a year in the jungle down there on the Southern tip of palawan Island, across the Straits from Borneo. Great diving there.

Nice seeing some others collect U.S. Philippine issued coinage as well.

I have tried to find one of those albums. All that I have found are pictures and statements that they are no longer made.

I found 2 in a coin shop in Paducah KY, along with Panama, Mexico and 2 Great Britian Victoria type sets. Kept the one's I didn't have and sold the rest on Ebay. They usually sell on Ebay for $30-$50.
