Does anyone know or can guess who the figure is on the new US Marshals Commemorative Silver Dollar?

He looks familiar but I can not place him, either from an old photograph or a Western film actor.

The designers are identified as Frank Morris and Joseph Menna, but there is nothing about who the "model" is.

No idea. If it is patterned after the likeness of a real or fictitious person I'd like to know too.
I'd also like to know what they were using for a model of the marshal's gun. Not like anything I have ever seen. Sorta like a Lemat revolver, sorta not. Definitely not a Colt product. Wonder if there was a conscious effort to not run the risk of license issues. Its a goofy looking piece.

The mint hired a couple of really poor artists. This was their model:

    bdunnse Who dat?

Could be Bass Reeves, but I am guessing it is a generic old west dude with standard issue moustache. Kind of looks like the logo used for the US Marshal's Museum in Ft. Smith.
