I would look at a bunch of examples on HA: http://coins.ha.com/itm/three-dolla...Auction-Archive-PreviousPricesHeritage-081514
I missed that , it does look like it was deliberate . But hopefully it's too small to detail the coin . Especially how nice the overall coin looks .
I'm going 62 I hope they don't details it for that scratch pcgs I'd say no they wouldn't ngc maybe their tough on scratches. I'm thinking they'll grade it straight tho pcgs called a $5 of mine with a similar scratch a straight 62
And again I'm going to open a can of worms....TPG I remember when everyone thought PCGS WAS the Best TPG. Now NGC seems to have a higher standard . As for nickels I know they do. In another post on full bell lines there were some saying PCGS would grade yes, and NGC no. Some like the slabs of NGC better, others PCGS . My point we have a 70 point grading system. But what we don't have is a set standard between TPG's. So my point why summit a coin for grading? 50 years ago we sit at a coin club sell, swap trade and discuss the grade. Today we pay a stranger to tell us what we already know. And give them $50 @ pop to do so.....but again there's no true standard. Who gave them control over the market? Sorry Matt did not mean to hijack your thread. Just inquiring minds like to know.
Not at all. It's a good comment. The reason that they differ on certain types is all a part of the game. If the 2 companies graded exactly the same... What would be the point for them to stay in business? One company or the other gets a reputation for grading a certain type of coin a certain way... Dealers and advanced collectors take note of stuff like this.
Agreed. I usually send my gold and my strictly original circulated silver to pcgs I send my toners my eye appeal coins and my early copper to ngc who by the way are much faster and easier to deal with. I'm still waiting on results from a pcgs submission they recieved nov 18!! Ngc got there the same day and got back here 3 weeks ago
I must be old school as to me this is a hobby not a game...I understand to the TPG'S it is... called a monopoly. Your $3 coin has great eye appeal,it's a very nice strike for those reasons alone I would buy it if I was in the market. Not because it had a grade by business but because you and I would sit down and come to a price that is fair to both the seller and the buyer.
I call it a game more as a dig at the crack out guys who are truly playing a game. I'm just a student, always learning and trying to teach where I can.
Yes, it is definitely Longacre doubling. The entire periphery of the wreath on the reverse also shows it. This is incredibly common on coins of this era.
big jump in near gem grades. i'm hoping they won't detail it. i think they net it to 63/63+. oh and nice date btw!!
Just got the grade back. I sent it through NCS to remove the copper spots... which they did... It went MS63+
How do they remove copper spots? I was under the impression these cannot be removed as it was part of the alloy in the coin? (What I have been told over and over in the past)
I'll post pics when it comes back... from the low quality pics they provide... it appears to be gone.
