    Is it raised? If it is, it's probably from a cracked die.
    Is it cut into the coin? If it is, it's damage.

    From my vantage point it appears to be a final stage die crack.

    It looks like a staple scratch to me.

    A die crack would go all the way through the log and likely be the widest in the depths (high point of the die). A scratch would not make it into the depths just like this one does not get into the depths.

    You are correct, I did not look at the log close enough. It rides above. Thanks.

    I think Chris called this one perfectly. Someone probably scratched it removing it from a stapled holder.

    I disagree. The staple would skip occasionally, hitting some of the low points and missing others. Besides, you can see where the scratch has pushed metal up along the edge.

    A scratch CAN make it into the depths, but not necessarily all of them.
