Hello. Its been awhile since I have logged in. Used to be here pretty regular but life happens.
I have recently been looking at two cent pieces and find them very attractive. Has anyone collected
this series and is it expensive to complete or at least nearly complete a set? Thanks:bow:

Robert, the U.S. 2c. coin series is a very difficult one to collect,as there are a few scarce & rare dates in them. The same thing applies to the 3c. series as well.

As Aidan has said some of the 2 cent coins can get a little up in the money the 2 cent goes from 1864 to 1873 the 1873 proof in g-4 will run you about $1300.00 . You can find most of the coins in fine - for $25.00 to $40.00 however the 1864 small motto is around $285.00 in fine and the 1872 in fine will run about$450.00 there are some here that do collect the 2 cent so they can help you much better then I.

The 2 cent series is a nice series to collect and attempt to complete. Because it is a relatively short series, it is feasible to finish it. It can be somewhat tough locating nice, original coins in better grades, but they are out there and available if you take your time.

In my experience, 2 cent pieces have been getting a little more recognition lately and have been generating some strong bids at auction.

They are hard to completee a set from what I've seen, but a good thing is like mentioned earlier it is a short series. Good luck collecting them! Just curious, what sparked your interest in them? Obvious answer is probably that they are pretty good looking coins. Good luck! :thumb:

Look at it like this. With the state quarters, new dollar coins, tons of memmorials beign pumped out from the Mint, coin collecting has boomed beyond normalacy. Now consider there are probably 25,000,000 coin collectors in the US. With 300,000,000 people that is not unreasonable. Most of the 2 Cent peices have mintages of less that a few million and some less than one million. In spite of these factors prices are still reasonable in the G4 or VG8 range. Same with 3 Cent peices. However, being able to find them is becoming rather diffcult since many people want just a few just for the sake of saying I've got one of those.

I got interested in them after seeing one. The first time I saw one I thought they are really beautiful and reflect a very ornate period in our history. I bought my first one tonight. An 1865 in excellent condition for $41. I'm very excited. I greatly appreciate all your responses.

The following is a prejudiced reply, but I really like the 2 cent piece.
The 1864 Small Motto is tough, but obtainable. (I have two: a G+ and a VG-10) any thing above that grade is very difficult to find. I rarely see them, and it is fun to find one when you do, really tough coin, a lot tougher than the current prices.
The 1872 is also very tough, I have only seen two in the last few years, a VG-10 that I got in 1999, and should be a Fine, except that the WE is gone.
The other is a PCGS XF-45, really original, and I was able to get it last month after negotiating with the dealer for months. He originally wanted almost unc money-- I told him to keep it. Finally got it below bid. I think that it was a steal.
The 1872 is way underpriced at current levels, and it is time for the set to really move, it just needs a bit of a push by collecotrs and these prices will seem very cheap.
    Good luck with the set.
Maybe (a big maybe) someday I'll have an 1873, but I doubt it.
