I was hoping someone could help me with this. Id like to start a collection of German Marks during the Nazi (WWII) era, particularly the 2 Mark coin. Which I am mainly interested in. Im looking for some kind of book or on-line price guide to these coins as I have no idea as of their value, prices, rarities or varieties (if any). Id like to find a book that focuses mainly on the German Mark if there are any. Can any of you World coin guys help me with this?
You're welcome. You can send Christian an email. He can help you on the road to collecting Nazi German coins & the Nazi German banknotes. Aidan.
Actually Christian knows hardly anything about Nazi banknotes. The "standard" catalog for German coins (1871-present) is the Jaeger. But that is in German, and - like most catalogs - not available online. Nazi Germany's 2 RM coins were all silver pieces (Ag 625). In the Empire (Deutsches Reich), Berlin/A was the most common mintmark, so in general that is also the least expensive type. The first issue was a Martin Luther commemorative coin (1933), followed by the Potsdam Garrison Church commem (1934). The Friedrich Schiller coin (also '34) was made in Stuttgart/F only, and is a little more expensive. Then, issued between 1936 and 1939, there was the 2 RM circulation coin with Paul von Hindenburg on one side, and the eagle with the large swastika on the other side. Will check for prices ... Christian
Just to give you an idea about 2 Reichsmark: http://www.coinarchives.com/w/results.php?results=100&search=2+reichsmark Are you willing to consult Babelfish for translating German to English? Then you might be interested in the Jaeger catalog - German coins from 1871 (PDF-File). Interested = send PM
As for some prices, have a look at the value/price guide in "moneytrend" ... (Nazi Germany p. 1) http://www.moneytrend.at/neu/inhalt.php?w=75 (Nazi Germany p. 2) http://www.moneytrend.at/neu/inhalt.php?w=76 Christian

Well just found a 1939 2M in a lot I bought and have to say it is a striking coin to look at the head of Paul von Hindenburg is very strong as a image De Orc :thumb:
Bit black yes but worn no, you can still quite clearly see the hair on his head and the eagle is as clear as a anything De Orc :kewl:
That is a nice 2M Steve. I can make out a great deal of detail. I think they're very nice coins with a design that made a very strong statement in its day.
Indianhead.. Apache57 I have a collection of German Coins, very beautiful coins in design and quality. Have some Nazi era coins, and currency anything particular you looking for?
A good website for German coins and other collectibles is http://www.sammler.com The website is also in English, but if you can read some German I would recommend to choose those pages, as they are more complete. I'm also collecting German III Reich coins.
I also collect 3rd Reich coins, and have found it to be quite an enjoyable challenge to locate them in nice, Uncirculated condition. I am working to complete a set of the 2 and 5 Mark coins, all types, dates and mints (there are 99 pieces total). Currently, I am missing only about 5 pieces to complete the set, plus I need 5-6 upgrades to have them all in nice BU. I have sold or traded most of the duplicates I've accumulated along the way, but I do have a few dupes remaining. In general, the coins are available and inexpensive, but certain dates/mints are quite scarce, especially in nice condition (i.e. 1936-J 2M). Have fun!
