When they had "Coin #1 of the First 250 Struck" on holders, it at least made coin #1 worth a small premium. I don't think I have seen US coins slabbed that way, but at one time world coins were. I remember seeing gold Sovereigns in particular slabbed that way for the year 2000.
While I don't pay for or get into promotional labels, I am thankful for people that pay the TPGs for them. The extra money they receive for doing next to nothing helps keep actual grading fees down.
Well, as you all know, I rarely have anything good to say about the mint - but, KUDOS to the mint for actually taking a position, in writing, that educates collectors.
Except most of those didn't say "#1 of" they said "1 of" so all you knew was it was one of the group but it didn't really tell you which one. Also most of them don't say "First ### Struck", they just say "of ###". You end up with something meaningless because every slab in the group is "1 of" and when the groups is all sold you send in another group and each of the can also be "1 of". Even for the groups that did say "of the first ## struck" You almost never see anything but #1's
