http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/index.aspx?CertNumber=3983546-001 Just got my grade back for this coin. I got this coin off Ebay about 2 years ago. Came in a nice 1946-P Mint Set someone put together for somewhere about 50 bucks I think. Guess I didn't check the coin for the Doubled Die Variety a few years ago. I was going through my safe and coins last week for varieites and found this one. Pleasant surprise for sure. I will post a picture when I get it in hand. Moral of the story is keep looking. Might find a nice variety in your old coins.
I still find varieties in my rolls of "junk"...how jealous I am that you found THAT in your slabs! I like this. I like this very much.
I actually didn't find it in the slap. I had a put together mint set I bought off Ebay a few years ago. Guess I didn't check for that variety when I got it. Went through my coins in January and found it then. Found out the grade today so doing the happy dance.
Probably sell it. Trying to figure out what avenue I want to sell it to get the best price. Might do Heritage.
It pays to be a picker! The last 5 purchases 5 have been cherry picked . And 5 for 5 where the variety value was over 100% of my cost. I do understand value and what someone will pay are two different things. But.... what I have picked I don't really want to sell, not at present.
Not only does that help, but you should also keep abreast of any new varieties. You just never know when something else might pop up in your collection. Great find.
Now that is good picking. This one for me was pretty lucky. Pictures weren't that good on Ebay so I was just buying it for a nice BU mint set. Nice suprise for sure.
Thanks Mark- Very good point. Going my proof and mint sets I was using Variety Plus on NGC. That helped me alot on what to look for.
Thanks my friend. Took a little time off but caught the bug again. Will be sticking around for a while.
