I won an excellent coin in the Pecumem auction as the only bidder and my limit was well above the minimum. I wonder if some potential bidders didn't participate because it is Super Bowl Sunday and they were otherwise occupied. Do you think some prices realized might have been lower for that reason?

The people who put up the auction might have been counting on snipe bids being set up. But I think it's not real smart to end an auction on this day.

Pecunem is not snipable, but I understand your point Kasia for Ebay. Makes me want to go to Ebay and see what is ending in a few hours. :)

I bleew my real coin budget at FUN on 2 coins, and then again last week on a early Persian sigloi on CNG. I will be basement coin trolling on Ebay if anything. :(

Well, the game doesn't start for another hour and a half, but there is certainly a whole lotta football-hoopla all day long, so perhaps it did distract a few diehard football/ancient coin collectors?

I watched some of it and noticed many going very cheaply. Not the one coin I bid on though, which went for multiples of estimate. It was definitely worth the hammer although I did not win it.

Well, it's a bit like the old Roman gladiator games, but rather than dying on the battle-field they all become millionaires and go home and beat their wives and kids!!

Oh, except for the 49ers (they're all happy-go-lucky dog-walkers and good ol' family-men)

Not so much. It is SMS which has a different pricing (because it is a different type of issue) than the regular business strike of that year. This one may be worth 18.00. If it was a regular business strike and was MS 66 it would be worth more.

I agree if it weren't a cameo, but being a cameo makes it a higher grade than just SMS66.

True, I shouldn't have been so hasty. Yes, the Cameos are not a significant proportion of these SMS coins, so it will value higher. So yes, you got a good deal. :)
