Id quote you all but it would take to much energy... guy i bought it from said EOR toned.. hard to argue with guys named physics and chemistry tho... you have tolerated my stubborn comments and gave examples that match pretty closely to my coin.. i.guess ive already gotten sick of the same tired comments about coins ive posted.. in any event,a couple of you nailed it and i wont talk the coin up anymore.. i feel the assigned grade is pretty accurate.. gave.$30 for.this one and i wont be playing the crackout game anytime soon here.. thanx for making the thread educational fellow toning enthusiasts i enjoy chatting w others who are passionate about the hobby

It's not EOR. If it were, one side wouldn't be toned.

Yep and all the EOR ive ever seen have weird patches and not nearly monochromatic as this is to me... now i need to show you guys my 1950 (no mint sets that year) quarter so we can figure out the monster green/pink obverse and blue/magenta reverse pallet toning and what caused it

I agree, that EOR tend to be one sided (with the off possibility that a coin could have been removed and flipped).

OP, here is the type of holder that was used to house mint sets from 1947-1958. There was a board for each mint and packaging to separate them. This is what toned your coin...

OP, here are some more examples of mint set toners for this series...

1958 (P) old ANACS MS67 - This is why I also disagree with another poster that implied that old ANACS was very loose on these. I have seen coins cross or upgrade. I posted this to another forum and an Ex-NGC grader agreed with me that the coin was accurately graded. I sold it for this for a bit above the PCGS Price Guide Value for a MS67.

I also have photos of a monochromatic toner that I sold in a old ANACS holder. The 1958 is very common with nice toning.

Very very nice coins... i guess the only argument(not a good one) i can give is that my coin doesnt have the colorband similiar to these mint set toned coins. I would LOVE to see the monochromatic 1958 if/when you get a chance! Im assuming its mint set toned as well??

It's not pretty. I bought the coin from lousy photos on eBay hoping to score a beautiful coin for a cheap price. I broke even on the sale. I hope I can find it in all of my images.

P.S. Also, there is a good amount of variation in the coloring and banding. This is not present on every mint set toner, and not every mint set toner will have the same banding pattern.

Hey you seem to be a trusted and respected member chemistry dude... i am definitely kicking myself for JUST NOW being interested in chemistry/quantam physics/space/time/aliens/parallel universes ETC. etc..... i found toning to be a cool spin off hobby/addiction and this one was just a cheap type coin for the right $$ price point! I must say i NOW NEED a nice double mint set to welcome 2 the collection!!! Hopefully ill absorb enough here to make a good solid cherrypick on one... i must now figure out which year/s i can afford... thanx to all posters for there input

I'd say with almost certainty that the OP coin was a mint set coin. I've bought and sold hundreds of these sets and for every monster toned half you see 50 sets that look just like this coin.

Somehow the images have become orphaned from the rest of my stuff, so I only have a slab shot of the obverse. It isn't very attractive. I sold it at a fair price only because someone was interested in the slab/serial number.
