Hi, Can anyone help me to identify this coin? If I remember correctly, it was purchased as part of a mixed bag at some point in the early 1990s. It was purchased in the UK, which is where I am based. It weighs 3 g /0.1 oz. The imagery is new to me, and I don't think I have seen another coin like it. Any advice would be of great help. Many thanks, Jonathan
On another forum i encountered a discussion on cast copies of hammered coins used in an advertising campaign a few decades ago. Included was a copy of a William I penny. Though the photo's are not optimal, your specimen appears die identical to the fakes shown. So better get some expert advice in hand on this one whether it is real or not. see discussion here: http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,23288.15.html
OK, thanks for the info. Have to admit that I had my doubts about the coin's authenticity, but I was nevertheless interested in the design and when it originated. Best, Jonathan
Look's like William 1st 1066 to 1087 Seaby 1257 Original in Silver, this look's like a "Museum" copy usually in lead (Just a novelty)
Cheers for the info. Based on my own further research, I have to admit that it is most likely a reproduction. Still a nice piece though.
