USPS tracking changes

Spoke to my delivery guy today for a few minutes. He said they just had a meeting and are about to implement "a whole new tracking system". I don't know how it all works, but he said that if I have the tracking number, I will be able "to see every step, including that he's about 15 minutes away from my house." He also said that each driver is GPS connected and if they scan something as "delivery attempted," but GPS indicates they aren't at my house, then it gets red flagged." It's supposed to prevent carriers from cutting corners, like scanning everything before they leave the office to save time. He also told me a major concern he has.... say a seller sends something valuable and gets paid, then wants to intercept it before it's delivered (rob the carrier). He also will know 15 minutes before it is scheduled for delivery, meaning he knows basically where the carrier is if he wants to rob him.

Anyway, that's all I know for now.

Possible, but a little far-fetched. A seller wishing to rob a mail carrier can already use tracking to determine when something is "out for delivery." Also, tracking a package and targeting its carrier is probably a pretty easy way to get caught committing a crime. Such tracking will probably protect far more packages than it endangers.

 

I don't know anybody that would rob a postal carrier just to get his coin back and face up to 25 years in prison!!!!

 

The package is from Provident. They're located in Dallas. Four days later it's still in Dallas-really? There's a Century of Progress.

 

Yeah, that was probably his way of griping about the changes. He's a great carrier, though. He gets a Xmas present from me every year.

 

USPS did seem to be moving slowly the past couple weeks. I had 3 packages that all took more than a week to get delivered. The usual time is 5 days TOPS. A couple of them also got stuck in one location for several days.
It was pretty annoying to check the tracking and see that it was still in the same place as 4 days ago...

 

I wish they'd just get their existing services working. If you don't trust what they're doing, what good is it to have bogus data to the nearest 6ft of where your parcel is?

In the last year, I've had 3 registered letters get "lost" at my local PO. The first two were eventually found, they're still looking for the last. I've attached an image of the tracking page (as of today) for humor purposes.

Hey I just got one. It departed Dallas on Jan. 28 @ 5:18am. In transit, expected delivery Thursday Jan. 29. Maybe they should forget GPS and buy a calendar.

I had an attempted delivery from Amazon last week. Just one attempt and I got a notice I had to contact UPS and make pick up arrangements with them. Albany, N.Y. is 1 1/2 hours away. I said no and they dropped off with my USPS carrier. Not getting any better.

 

Shoot Tommy, in the old days we used to make three delivery attempts.........guess it's all 'time is money' now. Sad......

 

Don't get me wrong, I like my UPS guy and maybe I can't blame him after all the snow and sub zero weather either. It's got to fray on all delivery folks after awhile.

 

The winter of '95-'96 is what done me in.........took a 'counter job' in the spring. I didn't think there could ever be that much snow. Literally, it started snowing in December and didn't let up until March.

 

Got a coin shipment went out to a fellow member dec 18 never to be seen again. Not at all happy with the post office right now along with the other items been broken or damaged

 

Sounds like a lot of winters. Why I love winter
