Started dabbling in them in 1992, just a one per county collection. Got serious in 1997 with the GTT collection. Wish I had gotten serious earlier. When I got serious you could buy common Conders in Unc condition for $20 each. Red pieces for about $35 Proofs were available in the $50 to $75 range. Today a typical common Unc will cost $150 or so. AU's or XF's are still pretty affordable though even for the scarcer ones. Way back when I first started collecting I knew about Conders but didn't do anything with them because I couldn't afford the book. Back then a D&H reprint was around $100 and the tokens in Unc were $2, $3 for MS red ones. And what was I buying? Circulated Jefferson nickels.

And I have even more of them. As it became difficult to find pieces for my main two collections I started picking up pieces that weren't part of collection but which I just didn't have. Currently overall I have about 950 different pieces and about 150 duplicates. Another sideline set I've been doing is the Lady Godiva set. I have all of the Genuine Lady Godiva's and all but two of the contemporary counterfeit Lady Godiva's. And of course to go with that I have a Peeping Tom. That's the tough one. It was a private token and they only made 24 of them.

One of the neat things about them is there are still discoveries to be made. So far I have turned up three or four unlisted edge varieties and three previously unknown dies.

Just picked this up yesterday on Ma Shops

These normally come in copper but they are known in tin, but the interesting thing is neither the obv or the reverse die for this piece is listed.

Very interesting! Have you tried any other types of tokens like civil war token?

Not really. I like the CWT, the patriotics, but I think if I was going to get into something it might be coal scrip.

Coal scrip is cool. I personally really like tokens that feel personal like Love Tokens.
