I'll give you $3,000 for it... hehe ;) What kind of offer did you get from your local people?

One guy said "I'd like to see that." Another said "I can buy all of those I want today off ebay for $1400. Common coin. Common date. Nothing special." Think I'll be avoiding contestant #2 in the future. Not quite sure what Contestant #1 had in mind. Maybe he thought I was trolling. Actually I think I should thank Contestant #2 for suggesting ebay since a few minutes research there raised some appropriate questions.

You guys have done me a huge favor. Thank you all.

I think $3,000 would be a fair price for the coin. I see other MS-65's in newer NGC holders (they show the sides of the coin) and PCGS and they are ASKING $3,300 - $3,500 and haven't gotten those prices yet on Ebay. So to sell it right away and get an actual buyer I think low-3's is in the ballpark.

You could always hold out and ask for a higher price or just get lucky and find a particular buyer that likes your particular coin...but that may or may not materialize right away.

    Not sure if anyone linked to them, but the last three that sold on Heritage, in NGC MS65, sold for around $3,000;

Heritage is one of the go to auction houses and many of us use their auction archives to check prices, point being is that they are a very good indication of true market price on this coin.

So basically, I think your coin is worth around $3,000. If you choose to sell it, and I disagree with those who think this coin will be a good investment, then your options are two fold. If you don't need the cash right away, you could call up Heritage and put it in their next auction, it would sell for around $3000, and you would see about $2,500 after fees. The other option would be selling to a dealer, for quick cash. A dealer needs to make profit so I would expect an offer around $2,100, maybe a bit better. Alternatively you could list it here or on ebay for $3,000 or maybe a little more, but with no history a coin this high in value may be a tough sell.

As other said, do not take it out of the holder, that holder will allow you to sell it quickly and get top dollar on it. Wonderful coin by the way, I wish my mom had stuff like this!!!

I think your prices are a bit high...I'm not seeing takers in the mid-$3,000's for MS-65 even for PCGS.

I also think that while premiums could expand in the future and they are historically low relative to the last few year or going back 10-15 years....they could also lay low for years longer. We're still 'burning off' the excess premiums from decades ago.

Beef, good catches....I guestimated the same price range based on recent sales/non-sales on Ebay since I was time-pressed. Sometimes looking up prices on Heritage takes some time.

I might retract my offer! haha. I have a few St Gaudens, and it is hard to know what they really sell for compared to price guide. I think you could get $3,000 for it, but it might not be a super quick sale.

Tell that guy you will buy 200 from him for $2,000 each......he'll make a quick and easy $12,000 profit right away since he can buy them for $1,400 on Ebay.

    He won't be able to buy a single MS-65 1907 !!:D

Only price guide that is relevant is probably the Grey Sheet. Current auctions like the ones cited above are great and Ebay completed sales aren't bad.

But dated material from the Internet or coin books are usually stale.

I worked at Blanchard for a while. They are a major dealer in the market, but have some practices that I don't necessarily agree with. That's all I have to say about that.

You can be assured that the coin is genuine because it is certified though. I agree that the coin is valued at about $3,000. Very nice.

It's funny, my family and friends used to get bombarded by Blanchard all the time with solicitations. Very aggressive as I recall, but nothing shady or illegal.

Heh heh. Not a bad idea. And it's $120,000, not $12,000 so he really ought to jump on it. Hmmm. Maybe 20...... Hmmmm
