HI Everyone, Was going over a 1904-o Morgan and found a doubled profile. Listed as vam-11 "Profile of Liberty head doubled in forward hairline, forehead, nose, lips, and chin." This is true and I see it. But lower down just below the line where the chin meets the throat there is a "void" or a small chunk missing. It is not from wear or damage. It actually appears to be where the throat was struck back over the original. Also you can clearly ( with 50x) not only see doubling but I think triple. Does any body out there have a coin that they can compare ? Any help or input would be appericiated. Thanks in advance to all. Don
hi don..would have to see the coin..could the void be a die gouge? btw..i tried to reply to a message you sent me a while back but i don't think you got it....drop me a line again w/ your e mail if you wish.have a great day.......steve
I have some nice pics but need to figure out again how to shrink the size to fit here. Hang in there!:desk:
I'm going to leave this to the experts, I can't make much out from the pics. But it might be a possible doubling. Good luck! :thumb: Phoenix
Finally an answer. So your thinking there was a break in the die here? I can't get the pic clear enough but there is doubleing where the throat outer line is. I thought the "Break" or "Cud" might have been another line but I now feel it is a chip out of the die or something. But if the die has a break or missing piece how come the throat line is still there? And how can it be doubled if a piece is missing. Bear with me I am going to school here and just am searching for knowledge. Keep'em Coming
